The Pirates settled on a general manager -- Ben Cherington. He has had a hand in some very good teams, most notably the Red Sox. Now, they can hire a manager so they can figure out which direction the franchise will go. I think Buck Showalter would be a good choice for them as he has built some very good teams in the past and knows how to manage a game.

If he is guilty of ordering the "hit", he should never see the light of day again. Move the trial to Boston.
The guy was wanted by many countries and will likely face many hours inside courtrooms. If found guilty, he will never be a free man again.

What sort of player will teams keep as their 26th player? Will they carry 14 pitchers? Will they carry 3 catchers? How about someone that can play anywhere?
Thoughts?

He dropped off the BBWAA ballot a number of years ago and is not on the Veteran's Committee ballot. He was arguably the best player in the game for over 5 years. Is it because of his cocaine use? There are others in the Hall that were involved in the drug scandal as well.
I think he should get another look.
