people saying lebron missing the playoffs is hysterical. its like they forget that klove played 59 games, their 3rd best player was either George Hill or JR Smith (neither even averaged 10ppg or 38%+ from 3), and they still made it to the Finals (even if Boston was beat up, they swept the 1 seed Raptors)
 
idk if this is a bold take but I'd take the '18-19 Lakers over the '17-18 Cavs roster. They'll make the playoffs

The west has dominated the east for years (in terms of performance) and now the best player in the east is on the west.

Houston likely will finish top 2 or 3 but obviously no one gives them a shot vs gsw

After that its a huge cluster of teams who could finish 3rd or easily 9th like last year

'Winning it all' has nothing to do with it. Yes the Warriors are on their own tier, but that has nothing to do with how competitive the conference is.
 
The west will have 11 possibly 12-13 teams competing strongly for 8 playoff spots. 
 
The east will have like 5 or 6 competing hard for 8 playoff spots, with the remaining teams getting in because they didn't suck as bad.
 
And to your point, that's exactly what it means quantity of GOOD teams does mean quality. The east is weaker.
