They were tied for third when Jimmy went out. 4 games above the 9th seed. Jimmy missed 17 games exactly.

The Lakers were in 4th. 2.5 games back of FIRST. 2 games above 9th. This was also December so less time for separation.

So yeah, you're dead wrong on many of those points. Thanks for playing though, maybe next time.
