Latest on AD trade:
Pelicans talking to multiple teams, but it will be the Knicks or Celtics. Deal will not be finalized until late May to early June. Draft lottery is in mid May so thats your timeline there.
If the Knicks get the #1 pick, they can put together a package that is equal to or even better than the Celtics best package. What they acquired from Dallas is enticing, but the things the Knicks already had is the real selling point. If they get the 2nd or 3rd pick, it could compete with the Celtics if they dont offer up everything the Pels want. Which is Tatum, Brown, Smart, and 3-4 picks. Tatum is in the deal regardless of several outcomes that could play themselves out.
The only way the Lakers can steal Davis is if they get players or picks the Pelicans actually like. There is not a single piece from the Lakers that the Pelicans love. Every piece the Lakers could include is what the Pelicans are calling a tier 3 or tier 4 piece. The Pelicans view Tatum and the Knicks pick as high tier 2 pieces. The source says they would get that and tier 3/4 pieces from the Knicks and Celtics, which is why the Lakers arent in the running. But they have discussed things that the Pelicans value highly and if the Lakers can get that, then they have a shot. But, the things the Pelicans have told the Lakers they like is kind of a pipe dream, so it will be Knicks or Lakers.
Lastly, they prefer Boston to New York, but they prefer the Knicks pick if it lands at #1, if that makes sense. If thats the route they go, its more likely they will move Jrue Holiday and whatever junk they have left. Theyve already started gauging the interest in Jrue around the league. They view the Knicks package as starting over.
