SVG proposes abolishing the draft and having all rookies enter the league as free agents, I support this idea

Anyone care to explain why?

Plus it would completely eliminate tanking

Because 20 of the teams would never have any young players to get excited about, and franchise values would plummet as attendance fell across the board

How exactly will 20 teams never have any young players to get excited about? Most of the teams that don't will be fielding playoff teams

The rookies would be limited to rookie deals, they would be free agents. So someone like Fultz would be able to make $15M this year. No competitive team is going to be able to give hime that kind of contract

This idea is not possible without eliminating the cap altogether (which the owners will never go for), or nearly every rookie would be playing for the minimum, with the exception of maybe 4 guys.

It's also not possible because doing this would potentially lower the salaries of the veterans without a massive increase in the cap again (which to reiterate, will not fly with the owners without a massive lockout), the players union wouldn't allow this either.

And this obsession with ending "tanking" is hilarious. A bunch of old ass writers/TV personalities get upset and the league has to make changes. Who cares?

Paul George says Westbrook’s decision will “absolutely” factor into his. “When that time comes, the decision will be easier to make.”

The second part is a good point.

The first one is not how this would work, there is no reason you would have to eliminate the cap and no a lot of rookies would not be playing for the minimum, second rounders most likely would be, but they're not shifting the needle on title teams. Alot of the top 15 picks would earn as much, if not more, than they do now

Oh I don't care about that either, but it can be a bit of an issue when teams are better off losing games than trying to win
