It's not so much power hitting.  Hosmer is a complete hitter.  He doesn't just hit homeruns, he hits all over the place.  And he's way better than show off Hanley Ramirez.

And defensively, honestly?  1B isn't that bad... if he ends up sucking, you have Hanley play 1B and Hosmer DH.

I'm willing to lose a little defensively to get a better bat in the lineup.
What I'm saying is Hosmer is gonna get overpaid because of his defensive reputation, when really he sucks.

He's still obviously better than Hanley.

Like I said, the Sox need a straight up power hitter to play a position that is known for producing power. At their peak, the Sox hit doubles like nobody's business this past season. Hosmer's 25 homer potential at a projected 6 years, $135M is an awful deal for them.

I think they'd be better off signing Santana or bring back Moreland and work on a Stanton trade.
I'm all for Stanton.

Wouldn't Hosmer's power increase at Fenway though? (If that's what you're worried about)

Tanaka didn't opt out.
Huge win for the Bombers. Tanaka could’ve taken his postseason numbers to the bargaining table and got a bigger deal. I love that Tanaka wants to be in NY and is all in.

To each is own, but if we don't get offense then we're not getting by round 1 in the playoffs yet again.

It doesn't have to be Stanton, but we need some kind of offense to propel this team.

This offseason is reminding me of the 2006 Class. A lot of good, not great players and flashes in the pan landed huge contracts because the class was so weak. That was the Zito, Gil Meche, and Gary Matthews Jr class.

I thought last offseason was a lot worse. I like this FA class this offseason.

The only thing I want to know this offseason is if my team is going to hire a GM.

So J.D. Martinez wants 200 million. Doubt he gets it.

Teams that have spoken to agent Scott Boras about new client J.D. Martinez have come away with the impression that Boras and Martinez are seeking a deal in the vicinity of $200MM in total guarantees, tweets ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick. Martinez hired Boras as his new representative just days before the free-agent period began.

I believe the Dodgers will drive up the price on JD. BoSox might as well splurge on Stanton.

idek what the plan is. Dave says he doesn't care about the luxury tax, but I find that hard to believe with John Henry

Bruce will likely settle for 3 or 4 years.  JD Martinez is a better fit in the AL than in the NL, as he is not a really good defender.  In the AL, he could get $200K as he could be a 4th OF/DH and get 600 plate appearances annually.
