They have friends, but they aren't going to penalize their team because of a friendship. For example, there is no scenario where a WC team that's contending for a title or a playoff spot is assisting GS in signing Durant. Which bottom dweller is going to be interested in two guys who are on the wrong side of 30 and will walk after the season?

But youre looking at it as a fan

I agree. Why would i help the best team get a top 3 player.

But the NBA doesnt work like that unless youre like Doc or Ainge who are petty

They can easily move bogut and andre if they need to. Those are valuable players you get for nothing

Pat Riley once backed out of a trade because he found out that Norris Cole would end up on the Cavs after the deal.

Assuming they renounce the cap holds to Anthony Tolliver and Steve Blake, as well as waive the non-guaranteed contracts of Joel Anthony, Lorenzo Brown, Cameron Baristow, and Darrun Hillard II, the Pistons salary is about $54 million.

Then assuming the Pistons aren't stupid, they will send Andre Drummond a max contract that pays him $22.2M in Year 1. So now we are at ~$76.2 million in salary spend, with a $94.4M cap.

So your answer looks to be $18.2M.
But that's also granted on them waiving $14 million of un-guaranteed contracts and cap holds

sounds about right. can we wait to sign andre until after we sign a free agent? would that even help any?

Yeah, because you can go over the cap to sign Drummond, and because he's an RFA you can extend that process for long. He has an $8M cap hold until he's signed, so that would restrict FA signings a tad, but you have five days to match an RFA offer technically

I would hope nobody is going to complain and act shocked about how much certain guys are going to get this summer.

There are a BILLION cap dollars out there this summer, and 500 million more coming next season. And there are like 7 good free agents, 10 solid starters, and everyone else is just meh. Just that we will convince ourselves will help our teams but in reality really won't. That money is going to be spent.

Lakers should max Batum if they want to move their direction away from tanking. Kupchak has to know by now that no marquee FA is going to sign there until they can prove they can be a competitive team in the West. They would need more than Batum to do that but it's a start. He's not worth the max but if that's what it takes to make him the first piece of the puzzle then that's what it takes.
