Interesting question: Who's the next player to get the season-long farewell? Pujols?
Maybe Ichiro? He's probably the next future HOF to retire

When you look at what their image is in the game, he is 100%. Lead the Red Sox to 3 WS. Lead the comeback in 2004. His speech in 2013. His impact on the DR.

He has 100% become one of the most iconic players since the 2000s.
I think your biases are getting in the way here. Maybe I'm wrong. But when I think Rivera, I think the greatest closer of all time. When I think Jeter, I think an absolute icon and one of the most clutch hitters in history.

When I think Ortiz, I think of a great hitter who probably roided

Ortiz fits under that Jeter status you described. Does he not?

Idk. I don't think he's the star Jeter is. The roid suspicion doesn't help.

It's not even so much about numbers for me, just how big their legacy is

And I know he's a bad fielder. But think of that relay play vs A's. Think of that catch diving into stands. These are iconic plays

idk why Sox fans are worried about finding their next DH when Brock Holt is already on the roster.
