LeBron: NBA only has problem with rest when I sit
LeBron James says there's a double standard when it comes to teams resting players.

Managing the workloads of healthy players is nothing new - it happens every season as teams look to stay fresh ahead of a playoff run. But it became a bigger problem this season since the Cavaliers and Warriors both rested their stars during nationally televised games.

Commissioner Adam Silver sent a memo to team owners Monday, warning that "significant penalties" would be handed down to combat the "extremely significant issue."
James sees through the hand wringing, saying that there isn't any issue when the San Antonio Spurs rest their players.

"Adam is great. Adam is fantastic. I love what Adam is doing for our league ... But I don't understand why it has become a problem now because I started to sit out a couple of games," James said.

"It is the case. It's absolutely the case," James said when a reporter tried to rebut. "Come on man, you guys know the real. Listen (Gregg Popovich) been doing this for 10 years, 12 years, 15 years. Everybody was like, 'You know what, that's the smartest thing Pop has ever done.'""But some of the other coaches in our league don't have the stature that Pop has, our head coach doesn't have it, so he gets killed for it. I gotta keep winning to help my coach be able to have a reason (to) sit his players."

Popovich has seen his fair share of fines for resting players, but James' larger point is accurate. Nobody bats an eye when LaMarcus Aldridge sits a game. Even holding out an MVP candidate like Kawhi Leonard hardly whips up any scorn.

But when it comes to James? It's suddenly the biggest headline everywhere.

The gsw/spurs thing sucked cause it was both sides

Th lebron thing sucks cause he's healthy but mainly because it was a saturday night abc game

If it was a random game in Memphis it gets talked about for a day and dies. Like earlier in the season

National games

it can even be for bullshit reasons too.

On thursday, it was revealed that Isaiah Thomas hurt his knee, and would be out two games. Coincidence that he looked fine on Wednesday vs MIN, and just fine yesterday vs WAS? It was the Celtics' way of resting IT when we played Brooklyn and Philly.

too defensive

The real issue is this was back to back Saturdays on ABC where guys rested

most of these Saturday games have already sucked and just when you think spurs/warriors or cavs/clips could give us some buzz, we get this crap

Thats the real issue. Pop gets in trouble all the time for this. Idk what lebron is even talking about

Pop only recently started getting in trouble for the resting, he's been doing it for a while a been praised for most of it. He gets fined and stuff for it now, but LeBron isn't entirely wrong, he's the most scrutinized athlete on the planet. Too much has been made of this, these games don't really matter that much

The Spurs were fined 250k after sitting their guys against Miami in 2012 and Stern called it a disservice to the league. Granted, I think the fine originated from them not even being on the trip, but really what's the difference.

Resting guys at home on non-nationao tv games would not get the same reaction as this. Cant stress national tv games enough

Cavs piggy backing the spurs and warriors absolutely makes it look worse. At some point a line has to be drawn and here it is
