Fucking exactlyHurricane Season said:Smart would be a great role player for a contender if he knew his role, and played to his strengths.
A huge part of the problem is that we have two players that can create for their own, and of those two has missed 14 of the past 15 games. So while Isaiah is getting tripled, and Jae doesn't create separation, its up to Marcus to hit the open shots for this team to score. And he's gotten marginally better at it in 2017, although still a liability.
But when he tries to focus on just being the point guard of the team on offense, and not as a scoring threat, he's done really freaking well. Against Orlando last week, he shoots 3/7 for 8 points (2/3 from three too), but he racks up 11 assists in just 23 minutes. And he put up a team high plus-minus of +36. When he plays his game (be the point guard, engage the P&R, and alleviate pressure for Isaiah as the ball handler) he's a great player for the team. He just tries too often to be the scoring guy too.
