He's been having a solid year.  As a scorer, at least.  He's a ball stopper at this point in his career though, and I've thought for a while he'd be better off leading the second unit when Melo and Pingis are off the floor.

Not with the injury history, no.
 
If we're talking about his production in a vacuum, I'd do it.  He'd be a far more efficient scorer if he got even half the calls he deserves.

Whats the point of signing a 1+1 team option deal for Rose?
 
If he sucks, the team will decline and he's a FA in 2018. How is that any different than him just signing a 1 year deal?
And if he does well, he's stuck in a below-desired salary, where as in a 1 year deal he could get a good contract offer as a FA.
