"When you suspended Sean Payton, you said ignorance is not an excuse. Have you considered resigning at any point in this process."

TMZ guy, "You have a whole team of legal guys, we got that video with one phone call."

So it turns out a 10 game suspension is actually for stage 5 violators of the substance abuse policy, and Josh Gordon was only in stage 4, which would have been only a 4 game suspension, which makes this reduction to 10 games make even less sense. Fucking ridiculous

And he might have only been in stage 3 during this positive test, which under the new rules is a 4 game fine with no suspension..

So basically, if he were to test positive again, it's a 4 game suspension, after already serving a 10 game suspension for the same thing.

Dude stop complaining, he's realistically should be out for the year, he caught a break that the NFL redid the rules.

He should NOT be out for the year. It never should have been a year suspension, especially for weed, and ESPECIALLY since he realistically should not have failed that last drug test.

He caught a break because the NFL realized their rules were stupid?

Him being out for the year would be fine if they wanted to take a hard stance on the past policy. The 10 game suspension is arbitrary and makes no sense, that's the point, so no, I won't stop complaining

I kind of want to say what you always tell me when I complain but I don't remember what it is.

Difference is you complain about referees nearly every week/game in any sport, I'm complaining about an off the field situation based on policy structure and how it's being implemented.

That's not the least bit true lol

And I'm not even talking about refs and shit, I'm talking about stuff that goes on off the field.

But it all comes back to the same thing, if Gordon wasn't such a idiot then he wouldn't be suspended in the first place. I mean just earlier this week he pleaded guilty to a DWI. He's been a problem since high school. He's problem #1.

I go back to this tweet:

Exactly what Nola said. The rules were stupid. But Josh Gordon was even more stupid. It was his fault he put himself in that situation fully knowing what the full year consequence was. He got lucky they decided to rethink the policy and that he's being held to the new one.

That tweet is never sent if the policy that the NFL just admitted was wrong, wasn't in place.

He failed their test at 15 ng/ml, which is a number that every major sporting league, the Olympics, and airline companies have determined is not high enough to be considered a failed test.

It doesn't matter what kind of situation he put himself in. He is being suspended 10 games for a test that he would have passed, and if he did actually fail that test, now he would only get 4 games. Not to mention he was thrown into substance abuse program and suspended before he stepped foot in the NFL based on College, which is stupid in its own right.

He's being suspended arbitrarily at this point based on rules that no longer exist. That's really all that matters. Why does it matter that his positive test took place in 2013 instead of 2014 like Wes Weller? The NFL dragged their feet and made his suspension official in late 2014. He shouldn't have to serve out a punishment on a no longer existing policy because his test was last year.

Maintaining a suspension of 10 games if he had tested above the new limit would be fine, but he didn't. The NFL is the only sports league that he would have considered that test failing, and now even they don't.

They did exist when he put himself in the situation. IDC if it was second hand smoke. You know if it's in your system, you get suspended. Why the fuck are you hanging with people smoking pot?

The NFL is a privilege to play in. And it seemed like pot was more important to him. Like at least step out of the room or something!

You cannot spin this in anyway that takes away Gordon's stupidity.

The NFL is probably being harsher on him than the policy states is because he should be subjected to the old rules, like them or not, because that's when he was caught.

The NFL is not a privilege to play in, that's such a bunch of bullshit and I hate when people say it. They are people being paid wages based on the value they bring to CEOs, or in this case, team owners. If you're calling this a privilege, you're calling every job that pays you based on ability and value a privilege

Wes Welker tested positive under old rules too, as did all the players who had suspensions lifted, you know, cause they were suspended. The cut off date is stupid.

I also never said anything about Josh Gordon's perceived stupidty, by the way. I merely said that tweet meant nothing

Which is irrelevant to what I have said anyway. Excuse me for being a little ticked that the Browns best player is being arbitrarily suspended in regards to the test and length of games and that I don't care about tbe situation he put himself in and whether that makes him stupid or not when it has no relevance in the matter

The "it all comes down to the situation he put himself in" is a horrible argument, because now that situation does not result in a positive test. And even if you want to stick with the positive test, if you're reducing the suspension, it should be based on the stage of the program he was in, which would have at most cost him 4 games now and might have only been a 4 game fine with no suspension, because its unclear if he was in Stage 3 or Stage 4, but he was not in stage 5, which is a 10 game suspension now

You're such an apologist for any Cleveland team. He put himself in that situation is a horrible argument? Get the fuck, it's one of the best arguments that can be made. Who gives two shots whether Gordon really smoked it or if it was second hand smoke. Why the hell would Gordon be around those people smoking pot? I'll tell you why.

It's because Gordon is a moron who just doesn't (or hopefully didn't, and after all this he does) get it. The guy knows his back is against a wall with the NFL and he gets caught drunk driving. I'm sure to you it's not a big deal because he had a .09 when a .08 is the limit or whatever, but he broke the rules as they were written at the time. Who does that? Who could possibly be that fucking stupid? NFL should have put him out for the year for being a moron. And does anyone think this is it? No doubt in my mind by this time next season he will have been arrested for something he did again.
