A delay of game, in that situation, should absolutely end the game. There is no reason Detroit should have gotten a second chance. Not only did the play happen, anyway, but they didn't even get the goddamn snap off in time. How do you not get that snap off in time?
 
There is no way the game shouldn't end on that. The NFL needs to address this in the offseason.

The Lions were given an incredible gift and deserved to lose but what exactly do you want to be addressed? When the whistle blows for a pre-snap penalty, the play has been compromised before anything happens.

What I mean is if the offensive team is incompetent enough to have a delay of game penalty when they have no timeouts, the game should be over. Don't even get to try the kick. That should not happen.

But a delay of game penalty is dependent on the play clock, not the game clock, so how would you even govern that? You want judgment to be applied?
