It's not even 1/100 as much as what blacks went through. There was a separate league at the time for black people. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think there's a league separate for gay basketball players. A lot of that is because being gay can be hidden, sure. Jackie Robinson and others couldn't hide the fact that they were black. Every where they went, being calling a n*****. Jackie was threatened death so many times on the field, off the field, etc. How many people do you actually think threatened Jason Collins' life? Don't be ridiculous dude. Nothing will ever compare to what Jackie Robinson went through and what he did for African-Americans.

I dont want to turn this into a black and gay argument

Gays go through a lot
We never know how they wouldve been treated if they were all out
We both know homophobia in this country is still strong

If collins coming out saves a gay kid somewhere who was suicidal, its a good thing

Thats what im getting at. Collins was strong enough to come out and is able to still live out his dream

Its really a lot closer than you think, and I LOVE Jackie Robinson. No disrespect

Im glad a lot of people seem to not care because it hopefully shows we are moving away from homophobia

At the same time, its good to know why a lot of people do think its a big deal

Its a different level than jackie, but its still in the spectrum and im glad openly gay athletes are out there

Again, you couldn't be more wrong. I fully understand gays go through a lot. But you can't even possibly compare it to African-American civil rights. Do we have separate bathrooms and water fountains for gay people? Do we make gay people go to the back of the bus?

I know you're a big supporter of gay rights and all and that's great. But you're sounding really fucking ignorant right now bro.

Look how many memes there are about bosh being gay like its supposed to be a bad thing

We brush over those, but when incognito or anyone is racist, we pay attention

Not fair is it?

What's not fair? I'm sorry but calling somebody a gay person a f-a-g  and calling a black person the n-word are not the same thing and they never will be. I'm not saying the treatment of both isn't an issue, but the n-word has a deep-rooted meaning that goes far back to slavery and beyond. Gay people were never enslaved in America.

Look up gay hate crimes
Its violent out there in some parts of the country just as black violence both today and in the past
Cant ignore it

Gays have to fight for the right to marry. Its no different than biracial couples being banned from marrying back in the day as well

Its not exactly jackie, but this is still a big deal

Again, there is a reason so many gays hide. World doesnt always see them for who they are

Hopefully this allows more gays to come out and realize that things will be ok

Gay hate crimes will never be as bad as racial hate crimes were during the civil rights movement. I'd like to think that America is at a point today where racial issues are a thing of the past, but I'd be lying to myself.

You said earlier this is on par with Jackie Robinson. You're wrong. I'm not going to argue this anymore. If you can't see how wrong you are right now than you never will and I'm wasting my time.

They arent enslaved in a literal sense, but they still have barriers

Why dont they all come out of the closet? It isnt that easy
Homophobia is still strong

Hate crimes everyday on gays. They are supressed still
Not as much as before, things are changing for sure

But have a little more compassion
Stop trying to turn this into a blacks vs gays argument

Its not
