i agree.

ive always been quick to call him a bust. he'll get called that more often because he likely should not have been drafted #1.

his development is all on the coaches around him.

Yeah, I feel like he was going to be a bit of project to begin with. But he was drafted too high, and really into an bad situation.
Kinda gotta feel bad for him lol.

Hes a project mentally, nothing about his current skill set says hes a project basketball wise. As with any young player, he needs playing time and assurance that he won't be pulled after one mistake.

And to the whole stats thing. I was talking strictly about that game, downplaying it to putting up 15/8 in garbage time. It was about seeing the versatility he provides at PF.

Calling him a bust after half a year is stupid.

I didn't say he was a bust. I'm saying he is going to have to prove he's not going to be. Which with how he has played this year, and given where he was taken, isn't that unreasonable to say.

No one has to "prove" they're not a bust this early. Rookies don't always light the world on fire. They have to adjust, and it's not always going to happen with zero playing time. You look at their skills, and different things they're doing on the court. Stats are largely irrelevant to young players.

He's a big bodied kid with quickness to blow by PFs, athleticism to jump over them, and strength to overpower them. He has a jumper that extends beyond the 3 point line, and good footwork. Everything there translates, he didn't suddenly lose all that. There were glimpses of all that in his first extended burn in a while, aside from overpowering, he didn't get a post touch. The high turnover rate and fouls have been concerning, but most rookies have those issues. He didn't forget how to score.

Kyle Lowry is a beast.

Also, I think there should be a Non-Contact Fouls stat and I want to know how damn many unearned free throws Dirk has been given throughout his career.

The fact of the matter is that he's a jump shooter, and does not deserve to shoot as many FTs as he does. It irritates me that they just give him free throws all the time.

You root for a team with James Harden how can you possibly talk about unearned fouls.

James Harden constantly attacks the basket--he earns the majority of them.

Dirk is a jump shooter.

Think about it.

If you really think Dirk Nowitzki is just a jump shooter, I suggest you watch some tape.

dirk gets calls because of his foot kick, if it gets touched, he gets the call.

Not only that but people fall for his pump fake all the time out of the post and that's another automatic call in the NBA.

He's so crafty.

The calls he gets are the only difference between him and Steve Novak bro.

(i hope everyone realizes this is sarcasm)

He's primarily a jump shooter, yes. He doesn't attack the hoop as much as most stars, and gets a ton of arbitrary whistles just because of his "superstar" status. It's absurd.

That foot kick thing is ridiculous.

For the record I've seen James Harden kick his leg on jumpers to try and draw fouls plenty of times.

If you know a single player who gets more non-contact whistles than Dirk Nowitzki, I'd be surprised. He does not earn his free throws, and that's that.

He earns his free throws by being one of, if not the, craftiest players in the league. But I wouldn't expect you to understand that.
