Jeff Van Gundy expects the Bulls to take a major step back next season.

"To lose (Derrick) Rose by itself is going to cost you -- even if you thought they were a 55-win team with Rose -- that costs you 12-15 games right there," Van Gundy said. "And then all the other guys I think people are overlooking. C.J. Watson even with his poor play to (Omer) Asik in that sixth game, listen, he was a very valuable back-up through all of Rose's injuries last year. He played well, and now, who's their backup, they have (Kirk) Hinrich and who? (Marquis Teague) No, no, he's not ... did you watch him in summer league? "Struggled" is being kind. That's not a knock. The 29th pick in the draft is such a hit-and-miss selection anyway. You have to give him time to grow and mature. But to think he's going to come in and play behind Hinrich next year ..."

Hinrich is expected to receive the bulk of the minutes at point guard.

"Their point guard situation last year was the MVP and a very good backup,” Van Gundy said. “This year it's a combo guard in Hinrich and we'll see who they can get as a backup. At the two-guard, (Rip) Hamilton is always hurt, and frankly in that Philly series, he's older, he's on the downside, and we'll see if he can bounce back ... Deng, you don't know where he's going to be injury-wise, and the frontcourt has been diminished. So to think that's a 50-win team ... listen, if they win half their games next year and make the playoffs, it's a heck of a year."

When Kobe hangs em up do you guys think the Lakers retire both #8 and #24?

As far as I could tell, nobody has worn #8 since Kobe made the switch and I highly doubt that is coincidental. He was already a great Laker before wearing #24 so even if you look at each number as a separate player they're both worthy.

Would he be the first player to ever have two numbers retired by the same team?

Nobody has worn 8 because it's not that common of a number...

Yeah but nobody has worn 34 either

It may be just a coincidence, but Shaq and Kobe are off I assume

look like you guys need me to clear ish up

1. BC, they will retire #24 and un-oficially retire #8. wont have 2 jerseys in the rafters. I'm guessing his statue will have both numbers and maybe a banner in Staples celebrating his 81

2. CC, naw. #8 is off limits. bosox is right

3. Summer league is summer league DJT. im pretty sure you can wear any number
for instance, Derrick Caracter wore #4 in SL when Luke Walton was on the official Lakers roster a few years ago

3 in #8, 2 in #24
he was the 100% main guy in 24 obviously, and won his MVP in it too if you're thinking of retiring the more titles number

I'll be honest, looking at his pictures on google it's still weird to see him as #24. I still see him as #8.

Does anyone know why he changed? Was it to one up Michael or something lol

He changed it to 24 because he wants to be one better than MJ. You can listen to anything you want but knowing Kobe that's 100% why...

Easy he just thought of it. When there was a surplus of Kobe vs MJ talk going on.
