Boston Celtics forward Rasheed Wallace has been fined $35,000 for publicly criticizing game officials, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.

Wallace was fined for comments made to the media on April 19.
This has happened a lot, but this is the first time I actually like though about it. 35k is so much money for just saying a few words if you think about it.

Sure Rasheed makes millions, but 35k for just saying something about his job is crazy.
You ever wonder what they do with the money too?

They give most of the money made from fines to a charity of the NBA's choice. Then the little money left over I believe is just put into the league fund. Basically, Rasheed has given various charities lots of money.

I see. Just funny that like 35k, some families don't even make that in a year. And Sheed has to pay that for saying a couple of words. Just stupid lol.

Agreed, but the league has to protect the referees.

It obviously doesn't work though lol, players do it all the time. Seems like there is a new fine everyday.

I think they should fine and suspend players each time. That would work IMO. Fine them 35K and suspend them one game. Then once they get to a certain point they increase the fine and suspension.

I strongly disagree. Suspension for freedom of speech? A fine, sure. But restricting them from doing their jobs and helping their teams, no sir.

Meh. I guess your right. Didn't think about the freedom of speech part. No matter what though, players will continue to talk crap about the refs, most of the time in which they're right about it. Everything is a foul now.

Yeah I think the NBA should fine the refs for being such girls when it comes to fouls :p

Kind of glad we lost, they need to get their act together on defense and winning isn't going to motivate these players apparently, because nothing changed from game 2.
