Phillies sign Placido Polanco to a 3 year 18 million dollar deal. Polanco will move from 2nd Base to 3rd Base to take over for Pedro Feliz who will sign elsewhere. Polanco played for the Phillies from 2002-2005 and will more than likely bat between Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley.

Bye bye Polanco!
He just won a gold glove at 2B so it's kind of lame they are moving him to 3rd.

Theres a guy called Chase Utley who plays 2nd Base in Philadelphia, lol.

The Giants are showing persistent interest in Florida's Dan Uggla, "one source" told FOXSports.com, as an answer to their need for right-handed power. A "person close to Uggla" informed the Web site that Uggla expects to be dealt during the offseason. San Francisco already has a second baseman, but Freddy Sanchez, recently signed to a new two-year contract, is regarded a superior defensive player who could easily switch to third.

They should really pull the trigger on this move. They have a lot of options by getting Uggla. You could move him to 1st Base, or move Freddy to 3rd as mentioned and put Pablo at 1st. I think it would be a very good move for the Giants who sorely lack power in that lineup besides Pablo because Bengie is gone, cuz they didnt offer him arbitration so that means a team doesnt lose a draft pick due to compensation. Which leads me more and more to believe that the Mets are going to sign Bengie Molina now.

Well they could move Utley to 3rd, and keep the gold glover at 2nd...

But Utley has never played 3rd Base and Polanco has. And besides 3rd Base is a higher priority defensively than 2nd Base.

Polanco played 3B... For the Phillies, too o_O

If he's such a gold glover (which Utley most definitely is as well), you can switch him over easily. Might as well keep Utley-Rollins double play duo going because chemistry and familiarity with your SS and vice versa is very important.

Lots of talk from the winter meetings already, there's a rumor that the Mets have acquired Edwin Jackson

edit: a Mets official denies this

Nothing major for non-Red Sox fans but Casey Kelly told the Sox today he was committed to pitching rather than play shortstop.

Damn I wish it was true. I would LOVE to have Edwin Jackson on this team and he would be a huge boost to our team and what we are trying to accomplish or should accomplish for that matter.

Edwin Jackson is overrated. His post all-star game stats are horrible. He was starting to look like the Rays version of Edwin Jackson. I don't think he'll be a really good pitcher in the league.

I read something about the Jays trying to trade for Ryan Doumit. It would be pretty cool if we get him. He had a pretty good year in 08 and his contract isn't that bad at all.

Free agent left-hander Randy Wolf and the Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to a three-year contract worth $27 million, major league sources tell ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

Wolf, 33, pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season, going 11-7 with a 3.23 ERA in 34 starts.
Veteran left-hander Andy Pettitte and the New York Yankees have agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $11.75 million, major league sources tell ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.
