Looks feathered. Also, you shoulda go a few more pixels inside to eliminate the chance of getting that noticable BG on it. Has potential just eliminate the extra BG.
Also, might wanna image>trim> check all the boxes when you're done with a cut. Reduces the size by deleting all the blank pixels.
It looks feathered because he didn't half the size of the eLibrary pic, which is blurry as hell. So here is one of my tips for you:
When you open the picture from eLibrary, half it. Make sure the 'Constrain Proportions' box is checked. So like if you have a image that is 3000x2000, make it 1500x1000, so that way the picture is clearer and doesn't take as long to cut.
I actually trim it first at the larger size, then reduce.. easier to cut when it's bigger IMO..
try PM7's suggestion and cut a bit deeper on the skin area and jersey to eliminate the unwanted line of background.. also try Layer/Matting/Defringe of 1.0 to help rid of some excess when done cutting
can you see that you have background left after you cut? if not, then i'd suggest you add a layer of white, black, or any color that you find best to use and have it under the cut. that way, you can tell if there's bg or not.
