The good thing about preseason games:   Lions used a draft pick on a kicker. Nate Freese.  He missed an extra point early in the game.  They sent him back out for a 56 yarder going into the half.  He killed it.  Still seemed pissed off about the missed PAT.  Kinks that are good to work out...

If I were an NFL coach in the preseason, I think I would go for it on 4th down every single time.  I think all of the decisions on your punter, kicker, and coverage units can be made pretty easily in practice.  I'd like to see how the offensive unit players handle do or die 4th downs, see more...

As I think about this more, I'm surprised that the players themselves wouldn't prefer Hoyer more than the fans, media and coaching staff do.  I can't imagine snorting coke and being late to meetings is endearing to some eight year veteran lineman.

  I don't think its that.  I think they are trying to manifest a situation where they want Johnny to rise to an occasion and take something.  Believe me, the front office of that franchise prays every night that Manziel is the week one starter.
