Right. They probably knew that'd be the case, though. So if they really wanted Luger to go over, why even bother putting him against Hart? And also, fwiw, they still popped pretty hard when they originally said Luger won.
That Luger comparison is pretty good. Spend 6 months building a guy up with fan support only to kill it by pitting him against (arguably) the top babyface who fighting through injury (Hart's was storyline, Bryan's was real).
I wonder why neither got/is getting completely over with fans.
If they wanted the player, they would have found a way. It's not like they're strapped for money/spending room. They were barely spending the league minimum. Brady restructred. They let Wilfork go. Pick up the option and restructure.
