Back in 1997, the Detroit Pistons traded F/C Otis Thorpe to the Vancouver Grizzlies in exchange for a future draft pick. Thorpe played only 47 games as a Grizzly before moving on to Sacramento.

That draft pick happened to be the 2nd overall pick.

That draft pick happened to be Darko Milicic.

So who won or lost this trade the most?

Detroit traded a guy averaging 13/8 for the 2nd overall pick in the strongest draft class since '84, and yet Detroit still picked the one guy in the Top 5 who sucked.

The Grizzlies traded for a guy who played 47 games for them, and had they not made the deal, they could have gotten Dwyane Wade or Carmelo Anthony

the pistons, still. the draft couldve been handled better. but we won a championship and were in the hunt for almost a decade.

going back to that draft, if we really wanted tayshaun as our future 3, we shouldve drafted bosh, and later in the draft taken josh Howard over delfino.

that probably wouldve stopped us from trading for sheed but that still could have been done and had it been done, bosh wouldve had two great mentors and may be better now in the present.

I'd still say Detroit. I don't think it really matters who they took, they still ended up trading a 35 year old role player for an eventual #2 pick.

Pistons, as said above it is irrelevant that they took Darko, he wasn't part of the trade
