The Los Angeles Lakers remain confident that they will re-sign Dwight Howard and do not plan on entertaining a trade before the February deadline.

Sources say the one issue that could give make Howard hesitant about committing to the Lakers would be D'Antoni.

While D'Antoni was head coach of the New York Knicks, he told the front office that he preferred Tyson Chandler to Howard, according to a source.

The Lakers are confident the power of their brand, market and ability to pay him the most money will convince him to stay.

"Even if they're right, and Dwight stays, do you want Dwight unhappy and feeling uninvolved with D'Antoni?" said one source tied to both the Lakers and Howard.

D'Antoni was a bad hire.
buss was worried that a PJ hire wouldve made the nash signing a bad move because he wouldnt have been utilized.

say what you want but it was still a bad hire. PJ never had a point guard the caliber of nash. he wouldve been used. not that it may have changed anything. pau seems beyond lost with everything and dwight would still be battling his shoulder and back and kobe(get it? lol), kobe would still be kobe.

They need a defensive minded coach. Utilize Howard, Artest, and Kobe at the other end of the floor. Let Nash control the offense.

It amazes me how everyone is fixed on the offensive side of the ball when this team has consistently been playing terrible defense.

No doubt, 21st in def eff at 1.033 ppp. Dead last in fast break points allowed at 16 a game. You have Dwight Howard and still allow 44 points per game in the paint, which is second to last. The list goes on and on.

Yeah. Firing Brown after only a handful of games was ridiculous.
