The next general manager of the New York Jets will have to keep Rex Ryan as the team's head coach for at least one season.

The Jets have six known candidates, with Tom Heckert, Tom Gamble and John Dorsey scheduled for interviews.

David Caldwell, Marc Ross and Scott Cohen are also candidates.

This makes the job 10x less attractive and not just because of peoples opinions of Rex Ryan. Don't see how you can bar a GM from bringing in his own guy.

I'd imagine that there's a big difference between how Rex is perceived with fans than he is around the league as a coach.

And people are still interviewing so I don't think it's too big of a deal that you have to keep him for a year, nor is it a bad idea. But things aren't going to be any better next season so there's really no point.

Yeah no kidding. That's quite dumb.

Marc Ross already declined the job for that reason alone.

It's not about his perception, it's about forcing the hand of the guy you just hired to run your team.

But the cap situation is still the most unattractive thing about the Jets job, which is why apparently Tom Heckert declined an interview.

If the GM doesn't want Rex, they won't take the job. They're not really forcing anyone's hand because they don't have to take the job.

And I'm happy Heckert doesn't wanna come, don't wanna hire him at all.

Great GM. His only drafting mistake was Weeden, which was forced on him by Holmgren.

Didn't like the Falcons pick trade at all. Much better off with Julio Jones than whoever you got with those picks.

Taking Trent at 3 was a mistake. I still think he's going to be a really good back but it just doesn't make sense to take a guy that high. Claiborne, Blackmon, and Kalil would have been better picks IMO.

Weeden like you mentioned. Whiffed on Hardesty and McCoy in 2010.

Haden and Josh Gordon are really the only impact guys he's drafted with the Browns.

Joe Haden & TJ Ward in 2010
Jabaal Sheard, Phil Taylor, & Greg Little in 2011
Trent Richardson, Mitchell Shwartz, Josh Gordon, Travis Benjamin (Unproven but showed more flashes than most 4th rounders do) in 2012

Hardesty kept getting hurt, nothing you can do, and Holmgren said on draft night he told Heckert let me have Colt when he fell to the 3rd.

Also, Blackmon is underwhelming, you don't draft a RT at #4 and Claiborn is someone we do agree on. I might have taken him.

Claiborne was not that impressive this year.

Not Cleveland's fault Trent got injured. He's the right pick

I agree with Cheato that their picks the last 3 years haven't been as bad as some people make it out to be. I still have no problem with taking Trent that high but I can understand the argument for Claiborne as well.

As for the Julio Jones, its really hard to say it was that bad of a trade, due to the factor I like to know as "the Tom Brady Factor".

In 2006, Wes Welker played in 16 games where he led the Dolphins in receptions with 67, for 687 yards and 1 TD. The next year, he was traded to the New England Patriots for a 2nd round pick and a 7th round pick. Welker that next season produced a statline of 112 catches for 1,175 yards and 8 TDs. What is the main difference between the two seasons? One season had Joey Harrington throwing 2,200+ yards and 12 TDs, the next had Tom Brady throwing 4,800+ yards and 50 TDs.

In theory, this "factor" doesn't need to be called "the Tom Brady Factor", but I like to since he is one of the main guys that shows this.

Basically what I'm getting at, is was the Julio Jones trade bad? In return for Jones, they got two 1sts, one 2nd, and two 4ths, although they moved one of the 4ths to get Trent Richardson. How do we know that Jones would have produced like he is in Atlanta? Matt Ryan is a far better QB than Colt McCoy, Michael Turner is much better than Madden cursed Peyton Hillis, and the Falcons OL is much better than Cleveland's was. So who knows if that trade was good or not for the Browns?

Hindsight is 20/20. Cleveland could have stayed and drafted Julio Jones, who knows how he would have produced? The last "big time" WR that entered the Draft was Michael Crabtree, who was drafted 10th overall. They could have waited for a guy who went 74 spots later, who has 11 more career TDs and 700 more yards receiving than Crabtree, and that would be Mike Wallace.

Hindsight is 20/20.

Why do you do shit like that?

Could have summed that up in a sentence without trying to sound ridiculously smart

Because he wouldn't have gotten to talk about how great Tom Brady is otherwise.
