Amare Stoudemire is set to return to action for the Knicks, but Howard Beck of the New York Times writes that the big man could have easily been shipped elsewhere prior to the start of this season. The player once viewed as one of the team's cornerstones was offered up to nearly every team in the league and was "available for free", according to one rival executive.

In February, the Knicks wanted to send Stoudemire to Toronto in a deal for Andrea Bargnani, according to a person briefed on the discussion. However, that proposal was vetoed by Garden chairman James Dolan before it ever reached the Raptors. Unsurprisingly, Toronto officials told Beck that the club wouldn't have made that deal anyway. Before that, the Knicks tried to package Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler in a trade with the Magic for Dwight Howard.

The Knicks couldn't find a taker for Stoudemire because of his diminished production, health concerns, and massive contract, which pays him $65MM through 2014/15. The deal is uninsured against a career-ending knee injury, despite the big man's injury history.

Non-tradable contract. Knicks seem too desperate now to get rid of it lol.

Been telling people this for a while now, he's not going anywhere.

At best the Knicks need to just hope that he bounces back and performs well now that Felton is back in NY.

but when he started alongside Melo they had crap for a PG minus like 15 games with Lin even though he turned it over like 8 times a night.

im not saying he's going to be great, I'm not saying he should start either. But I'm willing to wait and see him play 20-30 games before I judge him.

I don't think Amare is going to improve under a shoot first point who is shooting under 40% from the field.

it would've been a rape of a trade because amare would go beastmode in toronto but bargs would fit a lot better in ny..

Eh, maybe on the offensive end but Woodson would lose his shit trying to coach D with Bargnani

like amare is a defensive stopper? i think ny would be better off with bargs and toronto would be better off with amare. dolan is an idiot and just wont admit a mistake in pairing melo and amare and i really dont think Tdot would've said no.

Idk, they worked well in P&R and Felton ran P&R beautifully the other night with Tyson.

And even though Amar'e played bad last year, he still had around 17 ppg. if he actually buys in to the team-first, defense-first mentality (remember everyone said Melo wouldn't?) and he plays off the bench with Felton & Priggioni, he's not going to ruin the team.
