NBA Regular Season Pick 'Em - Week 1(October 31st-November 4th)

Why not have the guy with the best record of the week choose the next games? More variation.
If there are ties you can still go back to the overall standings.

I didn't see this until now, but that sounds like a better way to do it, with more variation as you mentioned. The best record, of the week, picks the next weeks games.

In case of a tie, we'll do the total points of one of the games, like in the NFL Pick 'Em. Whoever is the closest to the actual score, gets the pick.

Still need some picks to come in. Every game that is missed, you lose the point for that game, but I would prefer everyone getting them in the beginning of the week. If anyone is inactive, for two weeks, they'll be removed. I know this was a special circumstance, with one of the games being postponed.
