The Boston Red Sox have fired Bobby Valentine.

"Our 2012 season was disappointing for many reasons," Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said in a written statement. "No single issue is the reason, and no single individual is to blame."

The Red Sox finished last in the AL East with a 69-93 record, their worst in nearly five decades.
i liked him in Boston lol.

Yeah, give each manager a year, and fire him when you miss the playoffs. Nice logic.

Would have been better off keeping Francona, imo.

Sad, I wish he stayed a few more years.

Sandy Alomar Jr. will probably be a candidate. Pretty sure he got an interview with Boston last year. Would love to see him get the job.

On August 31st last season, we had a 99.6% chance of making the playoffs. The fact that we didn't was inexcusable, so Francona had to be tossed. He lost control of the team.

That being said, we were still 1 win away from making the playoffs last year. To go from a 90 win ballclub, to a 90+ loss ballclub, in one year, is atrocious. The players, minus Jacoby (who only played 74 games this year), hated him. Beckett, Gonzalez, Youkilis, etc, they all disliked his styles as a coach. In a smaller market, he might have had more success, but in a market like Boston, where you have the 2nd highest payroll behind the Yankees, and you missed the playoffs the two years before, you cant afford another playoff-less year (like this year was).

Bobby Valentine was never the right candidate. He might have been better than Gene Lamont and Torey Lovullo, but all three sucked.

Farrell, Sandy, or hell even Tek I'd be fine with. Just somebody good
