I can't help but feel as though the piece overall is unorganized. I'm sure you have a reason for the placement, but as an unbiased observer, it doesn't seem to have any flow or cohesion. The design elements are there though, no doubt. I guess I just can't grasp the meaning of it.

yeah i know what you're saying. the placement is semi-'random' in a way that the layout isn't serving any sort of meaning as much as the presence of any one aspect. the layout was merely the way it looks best to me.

as far as meaning, it was just loosely built on the idea that people who are 'artists' can mean such incredibly different things. There is no way to measure the amount that someone is an artist, or the quality of them being one based on any sort of monetary success or praise. Kanye West is known as one of the greatest musicians of this generation, and one of the very few 'artists' of today. This has gotten him further than most people have, on the general scale of success, gotten doing anything. Jean Michel Basquiat, while obtaining much praise and popularity, was still a man of very little money and fame to him. However, both of these men are 'artists'-although different medias- would you say that one is a greater 'artist' than the other? No, because there is no way to distinguish that, even had they been in the same path(ie both musicians or painters). Both of them told people that they were going to be who they are, and as often occurs I am sure they were persuaded against it by almost everyone, because choosing to become an 'artist', what does that mean? What does your future hold for you? People can do it merely for fun, but some people rely on that for their success. It's much more unpredictable than nearly any career path you can choose.

I'm sure I explained that too much, and it still doesn't make sense...it really is a fairly simple idea, its just a lot of different questions/thoughts put into one thing that made up that idea behind it.
