As far as I can tell, the Minnesota Timberwolves are giving up on Derrick Williams for not lighting it up in his rookie year. Truth be told, it seemed as though they gave up on him halfway through the season. I am completely baffled by this, because going out and getting Chase Budinger and Andre Kirilenko does nothing--neither player is better than Derrick. Trading for Dante Cunningham? The kid is a natural 4 and plays at that position, so the idea that he can take the three spot is hilarious.

David Khan got lucky on Rubio, otherwise his drafts have been as bad as Kevin McHale's. Jonny Flynn? Garbage who will be out of the league before too long. Wes Johnson? Not all that impressive because he can't hit a shot to save his life. DWill? It appears that he won't even get a second season to prove his worth.

I don't know what the Wolves are doing. It's confusing. Flynn and Johnson? Yeah they suck and had to go, but why so harsh on Williams? He had moments of absolute brilliance last year. They need to give him more of a chance, and give him some serious minutes. Though he wasn't great, I never felt he was an on-court liability.

Derrick Williams doesn't have a spot on the team.

I think in a couple years you could be looking at the Wolves mistake of taking Williams over a big like Valančiūnas or someone.

Derrick Williams should be a 4, and the Wolves already have the best in the league. Should trade him while he still has any value

his skills are there. he has/had number one talent. hes just not big enough to have an advantage at the four and isnt fast enough at the three. it suck because he could be that teams number two but he never will get there.

I never like drafting guys like Williams that high who creep up the draft. He was considered a mid-first round pick, then started playing well mid-season and moved into the lottery, and then after the Duke game against an unathletic front-line he was in contention for #1. People overreact to games like that way too often.

I've never seen the hype around him. I'm probably still bitter, but look at what Joe Alexander did against an even more unathletic Duke in 2008, shot up the lottery, and busted. Williams is more talented than Joe, but will he ever live up to a #2 pick? Doubt it.

Combo guy who wants to be a 3 but should embrace being a 4. I think he still has a shot at being solid just not in minny because he's not taking Kevin's minutes obviously.

I still think he can be pretty good?

Not everybody comes into the league and lights the world on fire.

He was never really given much of a chance either, he was playing inconsistent minutes all year long.

I don't think it's the stats as much as I think it's the lack of a position.

If he's faster after this weight loss, I hope he can establish himself at the 3. It's not like Chase Budinger is starting caliber and Andre Kirilenko was horrible when he left the league. I can't believe they signed him.

chill out, it's just his first year, a lot of players start to adjust in their 2-3 year.
P.S Jhonny Flynn was good before the injury.

AK47 was not horrible when he left the league and is still a better player than Derrick, and he just simply fits the team better.

I still think he can be a pretty good SF. I would not be surprised if Derrick ends up getting more time than AK47.
