Maybe this has convinced Deron to stay and he just won't sign his contract officially until later so they can preserve cap space, trade for Dwight, then use the bird rights they have on D-Will to go over the cap and sign him?

Idk, doesn't seem likely
They would have to renounce their bird rights on Deron to open up the space to absorb Dwight.

Just the four of them equal to around 64M

In theory, if they filled the roster with minimum salaries, they pay ~$30M in taxes. Thats if 8 men on the roster make less than $1M.

Thats only for going over the hard cap, which they wouldnt initially go over. They'd go over the salary cap, but not the hard cap yet

They could only take on Dwight's deal if they have cap space, because they don't have the salaries to match, and the only way to get that cap space is to renounce Deron's rights.

At least that's what I think.

I wonder if Deron leaves now, and I wonder if Dwight still wants to go there even if Deron goes to Dallas. Interesting stuff

Salaries on board:

Brooks: $1.2
GWall: $10 (it was a 4 year, $40M deal. If anything, that number is lower)
Lopez's QO: $4.2M
Johnson: $19.8
Dwight: $19.3

Thats it. They are fine

this trade is going to happen based on deron agreeing that he'll re-sign, according to everything i read.

Deron has a cap hold of 150% of his salary last year, which is about 24.5 mill. They don't have the space unless they renounce his bird rights, which means they wouldn't be able to re-sign him.

I said they don't need to worry about going over the hard cap.

Unless Deron asks for $27M annually
Oh who cares about the hard cap. They aren't even gonna have the salary ability to sign Dwight.

I still don't get how $tunna thinks the Hawks are better than the Celtics if both teams are healthy...

Landing Dwight in a deal for Horford would be crazy for this season

This has nothing to do with the hard cap, Deron has a 24.5 mill cap hold on the salary cap. The NBA set it up specifically so players can't wait for other players sign with the team or be traded into open cap space.

Yes, sounds like they're out on Dwight:

Chris Broussard ‏@Chris_Broussard
Nets, of course, would've preferred to get Dwight, but Magic refused to engage in trade talks. Source: 'They didn't want to dance with us.

Chris Broussard ‏@Chris_Broussard
Source on Nets moving on from possibility of getting Dwight: "Dwight blew it in March'' when he waived opt-out clause.
