The Wolves are pursuing Pau Gasol and are offering Derrick Williams in the process, according to two sources.

Minnesota offered Derrick Williams to the Bobcats for the No. 2 overall pick in hopes of helping to acquire Gasol.

The Wolves want to pair Gasol with Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio.

Gasol is owed approximately $38 million over the next two seasons

God damn that would be a great duo down low for Minny

I don't want to see that.

stay the course? why
pau improves them so much. they could totally beat a number of western teams. improve in other areas, who knows, maybe reach the WCF

derrick williams will be the main guy leaving. he doesnt have a spot there with love. pau is better than him. they have money. no brainer

Because Pau will be turning 32 in the next week or so and his career is likely coming to a close. Plus he's got a huge contract. They need to stay the course, trading for Pau Gasol isn't going to win them a championship. So they're better off keeping their young assets, they aren't trading just Derrick Williams, with Pau's huge deal and their relatively low salaries, they would be moving a number of young guys, and keep building that franchise the right way.

I mean, Pau is making 19M next year. Derrick Williams is making 4.9M. Two guys that could potentially be in a deal are Beasley and Brad Miller, both expiring which means they won't be moved in the deal. Darko? The Wolves would have to gut a large part of their roster and mortgage their future in a trade for Pau. Makes zero sense.

Even if it's not for Pau, they're better served getting value for Williams now, because he can't play with Love.

That I agree with, but Pau is far from the answer.

Though I'd be willing to bet no team would give the Wolves would they would want for Williams.

I'd keep Derrick if I were them. Pau is good, and would really help them out for a season or 2. Derrick is only 21.

It sounds like he is slimming down though. He's trying to get down to like 220 or something like that. He's already down to 233.

I think he'd be fine at PF if he and a team committed to it. Not a SF at all.

Minnesota was staying healthy away from being the fourth or fifth seed in the west. They were beating quality teams left and right, and they were beating them quite handily in some cases. There's no reason to do this trade.

With Pau they have the best 4/5 combo in the NBA, with an unselfish PG who will continuously get them the ball.

And no, when they were healthy, they were barely hanging in, in playoff contention.

I'd just play Love at center and Williams at PF? It's not like he has no spot lol.

Pau's career is about to come to a close, really? Come on man. Pau has plenty of game left in him. I think Pau can play for a lot longer because his game doesn't depend on physicality, similar to Dirk in that respect. The dude is still one of the best post players in the league. Yeah he has a huge contract, but it has like 2 years left on it?

Then what do you do with Pekovic who just put up 14 and 7 in just 27 MPG?

Yes. About to come to a close, not coming to a close.

There is a difference.
