Lions cornerback Aaron Berry was arrested early Saturday morning in Harrisburg, PA on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, two counts of causing accidental damage to an unattended vehicle or property and two counts of failure to stop and give information to law enforcement.

According to a source, Berry was driving near the Hilton Harrisburg Hotel early Saturday morning when the car he was driving struck other parked vehicles.

Berry allegedly exited his car and began to walk away from the scene. A witness followed him and called the police.

Berry was arrested by Officer Duane Pyles at 4:45am and transported to the Harrisburg Police Department booking center.

According to a source, Berry was not cooperative when asked for personal information during the booking process and also refused to submit to a breathalyzer test.

Berry was issued a series of summonses for the charges and was released. He is awaiting arraignment.

The Lions issued the following statement:

"We are extremely disappointed in the reports involving Aaron Berry and the incident in Pennsylvania this past weekend.

"This is not the standard of behavior we expect from any member of our organization. We have strongly and repeatedly emphasized the need to be accountable on and off the field, which makes this incident with Aaron all the more disappointing. We will have further comments regarding this situation when appropriate."

Berry also released a statement to Lions insider Tim Twentyman on detroitlions.com :

"I want to offer a sincere apology to the Lions organization, Lions fans, the coaches and all my teammates for my actions this past weekend. This is not the example I want to set for young people and it's certainly not what my team and coaches expect from me.

"I promise to do everything in my power to make sure this never happens again.

"I understand these are just words and it will be my future actions that ultimately will speak for me."

Chris Fischer of Harrisburg television station WHP further reported Tuesday that Berry falsfied information during the booking process.

Berry, born June 25, 1988, played high school football at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg and later at the University of Pittsburgh.

Berry's former teammate, LeSean McCoy, hosted a charity softball game this weekend in the Harrisburg/Lancaster, PA area to raise funds for the fight against ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

The event featured a number of NFL stars, including Michael Vick, Jason Avant, DeSean Jackson, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Jon Dorenbros, Dion Lewis, Jeremy Maclin, Trent Cole, Steve Breaston, Greg Little and Damien Berry.

It is not believed that Aaron Berry participated in the Saturday's softball game.

Been asked about team penalties for Lions. Under the CBA, when a second player within a single season is suspended, fines for teams start.

... After 2nd player is suspended, team pays 25% of his base salary up to $200K. 3rd suspended guy, it's 33% of base salary up to $350K. ...

... And for a fourth suspended guy, it's 50% of lost base salary up to $500K. So penalties could come into play for Detroit.
