Phil Jackson had no interest in coaching "clumsy" Knicks

Phil Jackson, in a recent interview, denied ever having any interest in coaching the Knicks.

"I wasn't gonna take that job, that's for sure," said Jackson, who led the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers to eleven NBA titles.

Jackson dismissed the possibility because New York’s roster is "clumsy."

"They don't fit together well,” Jackson explained. “(Amare) Stoudemire doesn't fit well with Carmelo. Stoudemire's a really good player. But he's gotta play in a certain system and a way.

"Carmelo has to be a better passer. And the ball can't stop every time it hits his hands. They need to have someone come in that can kinda blend that group together."

This is what a lot of us have been preaching for a while now.

Thank you Phil Jackson for trying to tell Dolan and all of the dumb Knicks fans what I've been saying for the past year and a half.

We're the worst built team in the league. I'd trade our roster/cap/pick situation with nearly any team in the league.

I cant agree with that, the team itself ok, its the mainly the (non)effort and the partly coaching.

your two star players dont have games that compliment each other and you cant trade anyone or add anyone in free agency

On paper the team is more than ok, but the problem is that on the court is the furthest thing from a 'team' as I've ever seen outside of pickup basketball. Hell, it looks like pickup basketball to me. Wing player brings up the ball, iso offense, ball stops in his hands.

Seriously, I've seen pickup teams play more cohesively. And we're stuck with these shmucks for a long time.

It'd be post worthy to dez if it was about any other team other than the Knicks. He just doesn't want to realize that his team is still a mess. nbd

I'm from North Dakota, but I feel it necessary to say this, even if Phil is from my home state.

Phil Jackson is overrated. There are countless other elite coaches (Pop, Adelman, Karl, Rivers, Collins, etc.) you could put in his position during his career and they would have the championships as well. Phil is in no way better than the other elite coaches in the NBA, currently or in NBA history. None of the rest of them got to work with Jordan/Pippin and Kobe/Shaq or Gasol + Bynum.

You know your star player is a mess when Phil Jackson complains about him not passing the ball enough - even though he had coached Kobe and MJ throughout his career.

The Knicks aren't built for championships. Even if Jeremy Lin consistently performs like he did February this year. Melo isn't a player you want leading your team to championships, and Amare doesn't seem to have the same oomph that he did at Phoenix. It's a shame, cause I would love to see a team (even if it be the Knicks) displace the Heat and Celtics as the kings of the East.
