Pro Football Talk - The NFL has quietly adjusted its rules to allow Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III to use Roman numerals on the back of his jersey.

It was recently reported that the rules were changed to permit players to include "Jr." and "III.

There is no difference between Jr and II, it's just personal preference. People who have II at the end of their name are still Jr's, they just use the roman numeral.

When I play in the NFL I'm definitely going to have the III on the back of my jersey :thumbsup:

I think what people are getting confused about is that Senior is supposed to be I. Which would make the jr. II. But it looks as tho Pugz is saying that he can be a II or a Jr. but it was decided that he was going to be a II. So jr. is not in his name. His official name is Papa Pugz II (the second).

On the thread, it makes sense that RGIII can have the roman numerals on his jersey cause he is not a jr or a II but he is a III and the Skins also have Cedric Griffin on the team. so instead of using R.Griffin, he can use Griffin III
