Udonis Haslem admitted retaliating on Tyler Hansbrough in Game 5, which led to a one-game suspension.

Hansbrough fouled Dwyane Wade on a previous play that drew blood.

“I can’t imagine anything I wouldn’t do for Dwyane,” said Haslem.

“It is all fun and games to beat up the Heat in the media, to say the Heat are soft,” Haslem said. “But as soon as the Heat take a stand and hit back, it’s not funny anymore. Rabbit hunting is fun. But it ain’t funny when the rabbit has the gun.”

Wade gave the game ball following Miami's closeout win of the Pacers to Haslem.

“For my brother,” Wade said for all to hear. “For his sacrifice. I don’t think we win this series without him.”

Don't see him admitting it anywhere in any of those quotes

Really don't see what the big deal is with him protecting his teammate anyways. Had this been done a few years back, no one would care, because the league wasn't made for vaginas. This is the playoffs, moving on.

I get that, I really just posted it to clear up whether or not people thought he deserved the suspension or not.

Suspension definitely deserved. I'm all for physical basketball but to intentionally hurt another player is against the spirit of the game

I'm glad he cleared that up, because I for one, thought it was a coincidence.

But Haslem wasn't "protecting" anyone. He just took a shot at Hansbrough's face. It was dirty and uncalled for and he probably deserved more than 1 game.

He was protecting Wade, Hansborough hit him in the face and made him bleed. Are you fucking blind?

Yeah like FPS said, he was protecting him. Just sent a message to the Pacers, if you are going to hit my star player like that (intentionally or not), you will face repercussions for that.
However, whatever Pittman did was moronic lol.

Protect:
to cover or shield from exposure, injury, damage, or destruction : guard

Retaliate:
: to repay (as an injury) in kind

you tell me which one fits this situation

Retaliation is protecting in this case. If you don't retaliate, the other team is going to think they can just get away with doing whatever they want and will go after him again. If you do retaliate, they surely think twice about going for him again because they know it's coming right back.

he "retaliated" in a pretty weak way. sure it deserved an ejection/suspension. but it was pretty damn weak.

Have you ever played competitive sports? I would hate to be on your team if you're going to play softer cause you're scared of retaliation.

Tyler Hansborough was going for BALL, not to hurt Wade. Players get hurt all the time because of the physicality of the game. It's crossing the line to go for body and not ball.

Look, I'm not judging what he did just saying he deserved the suspension. I understand he's trying to set the tone for the team. But everyone saying Haslem was protecting someone? Seems ignorant to me.

He was protecting him by letting the team know what would happen if you guys hit our guys hard like that again. Was just setting a tone.

agreed. If Wade doesn't pull the ball back to his hip, this crap never happens.
