decided we can use this thread for hypothetical questions regarding the nba. maybe make one for each section, maybe pin? up to the mods.

anyways.

lets pretend the pacers shock the heat, the 6ers beat boston. how low would the ratings be for the eastern finals and nba finals? could either team upset the west and actually win the title?

Ratings for the Finals would all depend on the opponent. If it's Celtics/Lakers III, you know they'll be high. If it's the Spurs, probably not.

Hypothetical: What if the Bobcats drafted Rudy Gay instead of Adam Morrison?

I think that whatever team reaches the Finals has a chance to win it all. Neither of those teams have a good chance in a 7 game series against San Antonio or OKC though.

i really think ratings would be down if indiana and philly met in the ecfs.

i think the bobcats would still be a mess if they drafted rudy. even back then they havent ever really had a decent team.

You don't think a core of Rudy Gay/Emeka Okafor/Raymond Felton could have been built upon?

What if Greg Oden became what he should have, and Roy didnt retire so soon? Oden-LMA-Roy is a nice ass combo

They'd be wherever they were when Roy was healthy, about 4-5 in the West.

They'd be better than a 4th or 5th seed. Oden would have been a monster if he stayed healthy. Offensively and defensively.

Offensively? I'm not sure. They're a 3 AT BEST. Keep in mind they don't sign Wes Matthews or Jamal Crawford if Roy never gets hurt.

Here's another one.

What if the Celtics got the #2 pick in the 2007 Draft, and took Durant?
Note: Rondo would still be Delonte West's backup

Still pretty believable that they could potentially trade the pick but just for a better package. Rajon Rondo would have started at PG in 2007-08 no matter what.

I think Crawford was more about Roy than Matthews was, I could be wrong but I think they signed Matthews after Roy had a bone bruise and a minor meniscus tear, which neither injury is really serious. And Oden would have been a monster into the post, he got excellent position down low and shot a good percentage at the rim. He worked the paint well getting open under the basket, and ran the floor well for a big. Not to forget garbage baskets, and he was shooting 77% at the stripe. I'm not a huge fan of per, but look at his sophomore year per, it's in Dwight territory.

You don't add a dominate center and then stay virtually the same.

That's actually one of the mysteries of basketball is no one knows how good of a FT shooter Greg oden is. He shot 63% with his LEFT HAND in college, one of the crazier stats I've ever seen, but then shot just 64% in his rookie season. I know he shot 77% in his sophomore year, but in just 21 games, so you never know if that would have held up.

And Matthews was brought in as an insurance policy to Roy, but in this scenario that is never needed because he doesn't have injury problems, so I doubt they bring him in, although it's possible.

Roy was excellent anyways, so I don't really think it matters.

Does LA improve as much as he has?

That's another no, because Alridge's growth as a player was simultaneous with him becoming the go-to guy, which he never was with Brandon Roy in the lineup.

What if the Heat won the 08 lottery?
Don't think Rose and Wade work on a team, so I'm still thankful for Beasley busting and turning into cap space to get LeBron and Bosh :D
