Michael Pineda has a tear in his labrum and is set for arthroscopic surgery next Tuesday.

The official diagnosis is "a right shoulder anterior labral tear," according to Mark Feinsand of The New York Daily News.

Yankees general manager said that Pineda will need a "full year" to recover from the injury, meaning he will not pitch in 2012.

New York acquired Pineda from Seattle in a deal involving top prospect Jesus Montero.

Cashman said the MRI taken at the time of the trade and the MRI taken in spring training were clean and had no sign of a shoulder tear.

At least the Indians aren't the only ones to trade for young washed up flamethrowers.

Pineda wasn't washed up when we traded for him.

Wonder if everyone knew he was going to have major problems and that's why the Mariners included Campos in the deal.

According to Cashman none of this was an issue and they didn't find anything that would lead them to believe that he was hurt when they got him. He said whatever happened to Pineda happened as a Yankee.

Well then there goes that theory. I figured Seattle must have seen something (maybe in delivery or even something he does off field) and compensated with another quality prospect.

Still, this sucks but, Yankee fans shouldn't be too bummed about the trade. Campos is no scrub prospect.
