Wes Matthews to play for Blazers in summer league

Wesley Matthews plans on playing in the Vegas Summer League, a rarity for a player on a long-term contract.

“I’m playing. I’m playing. Dead serious,’’ Matthews said.

Mathews is widely regarded as the hardest working member of the Blazers.

“That’s not a surprise,’’ acting GM Chad Buchanan said. “Wes is striving to get better all the time. I love it. In the history of the NBA, I can’t imagine too many guys of his stature requesting to play in Summer League. That tells you a lot about him.’’

“He said he wants to play in two or three games, practices ... just be around the team,’’ Matthews' agent Lance Young said. “I said ‘all right.’ He’s going to be playing pick up games anyway.’’

This is one of the more interesting cases of the offseason imo. If Beal and even Lamb are on the board when they are on the clock, do you take them with Matthews being on the books for more than 6.5M over the next three years?
