The Celtics had a deal with the Grizzlies at the deadline that would have centered around Ray Allen for O.J. Mayo and a draft pick.

Doc Rivers went so far as to tell Allen that he had been traded, but called again 20 minutes later to say the deal had fallen apart.

League sources say Danny Ainge was also working on a Paul Pierce to New Jersey trade for Mehmet Okur and a lottery pick.

so close to a nice rebuild
frees money, lose KG in the summer, 3 first rounders including 2 lottos (im counting the celtics own pick because i think they would have missed the playoffs if this went down)

Doubt Mayo would be cool riding the bench again.

Allen Now Less Likely To Re-Sign With Celtics

Ray Allen has privately felt slighted by the Celtics over the past few weeks.

Allen was nearly traded to Memphis at the deadline and he has played a bench role since returning from injury following the emergence of Avery Bradley.

Allen will be a free agent this offseason and his odds of returning to the Celtics have diminished, according to the Boston Globe.

How is Bradley on the defensive end? Haven't caught the Celtics lately. I can't imagine a 6'2'' two guard works that well defensively. But I guess his shooting might outweigh that. From the looks of it, he hasn't been playing too well on that side of the floor.

The only reason he got playing time in the first place was for his defense, if that says anything

No kidding? Didn't know that. Guess the offensive spark is more power to them then.

A lot of people have actually called Bradley the best defensive guard in the NBA. Not that I agree or would have any way of confirming that, but yea.

Coming out of High School, Bradley was considered better than John Wall.
However at Texas, he showed signs of being offensively incompetent, with bad shot selections and not a great passer as a PG. He is 100% a SG in the NBA

Right now, he's showing signs of being able to score. But it's his defense that makes him special. He's EASILY Top 5 in the league in terms of on-ball defense. His off-ball defense isn't as great, but he's a Top 15 overall defender in the league.

He's the most valuable piece we have currently, especially with him showing signs that he can score

I love Avery lol

Surprised I never really heard that before. Didn't know he was that highly regarded as a defender.
