Drew Stanton lasted a whole week with the New York Jets.
A week ago, the Jets signed Stanton to a free agent contract. Then they traded for Tim Tebow days later and declared Tebow their No. 2 quarterback, even though they had reportedly promised Stanton that he’d be Mark Sanchez’s backup. That had Stanton wanting out.
Now he is out. The Jets announced that they traded Stanton to the Colts. Terms of the trade were undisclosed; presumably the Colts will send a late-round draft pick to the Jets.
Stanton was a second-round draft pick of Matt Millen’s Detroit Lions in 2008, and he played in 12 games during his tenure in Detroit, starting four. For his career he has completed 104 passes of 187 passes for 1,158 yards, with five touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Stanton got a $500,000 signing bonus from the Jets, so it’s been a profitable week for him. In Indianapolis he’ll likely be the No. 2 quarterback to Andrew Luck.
