The Minnesota Timberwolves offered to trade Michael Beasley to the Los Angeles Lakers for a first-round draft pick, but the Lakers turned them down, according to a league source.

While Beasley, a talented and athletic small forward, would fill one of the Lakers' greatest needs, the Lakers rejected the offer because they do not want to add to their luxury tax bill, according to the source.

Wonder why LA didn't try throwing in Luke Walton. I don't see why the TWolves would reject that.

Walton's contract owes him nearly 12M over two years, that may be a reason.

Beasley is owned 6M, and could be owed another 8M if the team picks up his QO.

You also have to take into account that Minny will be paying Love a lot of money. Maybe they aren't planning on picking up Beasley's option.

If the Wolves take back money they would want more then just the first round pick from the Lakers.

I don't see them just letting Beasley walk for nothing though. Might as well just take on Luke for one season and get the first rounder.

But I guess if this is his asking price, they would have no problems letting him walk lol.

I doubt the Lakers could just take on Beasley's salary anyway. There's more to this report.

They could take on his salary with the trade exception they got in the Lamar Odom deal. It wouldn't count towards the salary cap but they would still have to pay luxury tax on it.
