Jeremy Lin will soon have to learn to play with Carmelo Anthony, as well as one of Anthony's former Denver Nuggets teammate.

The Knicks are closing in on a deal to sign free agent shooting guard J.R. Smith, the Daily News has learned. Smith began the season in China, but has been eyeing a return to the NBA once the lockout ended.
Really isn't enough balls to go around for that team lol.
But granted Lin isn't a fluke, Lin-Smith-Anthony-Stoudemire-Chandler, is a pretty nice lineup...

I like the move

I know theres gonna be alot of that not enough balls jokes (lol) but I think Lin proved he can be a facilitator last night, and I dont see anything wrong with having this many scorers, long as we play for the better of the team and continue to play D we'll be ok.

Ego's aside we're a scary team

Lin is going to need to cut down on them turnovers.
But it will be interesting to see how the all mesh together.

That is true, hopefully Baron can help him with that or is at least healthy enough to come in and take over the games Lin doesnt show up.

He seems like the type of player that works on his game stays in the film room so hopefully he'll make those changes

Not interested in JR Smith. We have no room for another SG with Fields, Iman, Douglas, and Smith too? Carmelo at least is competitive, JR Smith has no drive to win or be a team player.

When can he play?
The season in china ended just a few days ago. He needs to get a letter of clearance from FIBA i think then he will become a free agent. And will most likely start playing after the all star break

I'm guessing his team didn't make the playoffs then?

Wilson Chandler's team made the playoffs, so I heard he might not be back till the end of March.

it's because he was forcing passes to Jared Jeffries & Bill Walker. Now he'll have legit guys around him so he can make better passes. He was also the primary guy that defenses were paying attention to, so they were forcing him into traps and double teams and what not to force him to react quickly and make a bad decision. once you have both Amar'e & Carmelo on the floor, defenses can't do that, and things will smooth out for him.

As for JR, I actually don't mind this. Everyone says this will take away from Shumpert & Fields, but Fields will still start, and Shumpert will play all over the place. D'Antoni won't be afraid to play Lin, Fields & Smith, or Shumpert, Fields & Smith on the court at the same time while Melo takes a rest. He's been doing it all week and it's worked.

But people are most concerned about his selfishness and attitude -- maybe Tyson & Baron can take care of that, idk.

if he had no desire to win, he'd go to the Lakers

He's a role player who thinks he's more then a role player. Not a good mindset.

He's a role player who goes out and tries to prove that he should be more than that... Which would be good if he showed that by making smart plays, playing defense...

But nope, that just means jack up contest 30 footers for JR Smith.

well i hope he'll be fine

a backcourt of Shump and JR could be disastrous, but it could also be pretty solid.

Sadly you can't just throw egos to the side. This team is going to have to play some swiss cheese defense so all these guys can get the shots they're going to want.

I'd rather of him go to the Clippers.

Him and "unselfish" Melo probably won't work.

I think this move is going to be good for the team, JR is finally gonna be on a very good team and I think he can put his ego aside. This isnt Denver anymore, this is NYC and the media and fans will eat you alive if youre not playing smart basketball. JR knows this, look at all the trouble Melo is getting for being a supposed ballhog.

we only have 1 guy off the bench who can hit 3s consistently. And that man is Steve Novak...

just think about that and Ego isn't enough to not bring JR in. And I'm sure the Knicks having that LLE is gonna sway him a bit.

5:50pm: Alex Kennedy from HoopsWorld (via Twitter) just spoke with J.R. Smith, who confirmed he is nearing a deal with the Knicks.
