Despite coming into the Garden 0-8 on the road recently, the Bucks were oddly confident. They had watched a tape of the Knicks’ home setback to the Suns and were happy to see them employing the same defensive principles assistant Mike Woodson used as head coach of the Hawks.

“They switch on just about every play, and it creates a lot of favorable mismatches for opponents,” a member of the Bucks disclosed before his team broke the schneid with a 100-86 win Jan. 20. “Check out how many times Tyson Chandler wound up having to guard Steve Nash.”

Why would you switch on every play? Personally I think you should only switch in late game situations.

I agree and I don't like the way Woodson's D has been running. No need to switch on every play. In fact, our Defense was very good early on in the season but now that we've become predictable on D with those switches, we're starting to get ripped apart again.

If Woodson's defensive philosophy is simply switching every possession on D, we're fucked.

Switching/showing on every play isn't automatically bad, you just have to have the right personnel out there to do it.

Its because we are tricking people into believing we're not that good defensively at the beginning of the year to lull them into a false sense of security until we make that big run at the end of the year.

60% of the time, works every time....

It's a bold move, let's see if it pays off for them.

It's bad when you don't have the personnel though lol

The Lakers did alot of switching against the Hornets in the playoffs last year. You'd have Gasol and Bynum on CP alot of the time. Whenever I get out of school I'm going into coaching, so this philosophy is something I want to learn more about.

Well yea, the key is having versatile big men. I could see why it's Woodson's "system" when he had Josh Smith in Atlanta. A bit different with Amare and Chandler.

Mike Brown did it all the time with Varejao/LeBron.

Well yeah, like you said you have to have the guys to do it.

That's just lazy coaching imo, not a good sign for the Knicks.
