Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden has pulled himself out of consideration for head-coaching positions, according to league sources.
The St. Louis Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars had wanted to interview Gruden, who is very happy in Cincinnati and looks forward to continuing to work with young quarterback Andy Dalton.
Gruden has been a hot name in league circles after joining the Bengals before the 2011 season. Gruden, 44, coached for seven seasons (2002-08) with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before spending two seasons in the United Football League as an offensive coordinator and head coach with the Florida Tuskers.
"I'm happy here. I like working for Marvin (Lewis) and with the team," Gruden said on Tuesday. "I feel like we're just scratching the surface on offense, but we have a lot of good, young players and have the potential to do even better next season."
Gruden had hinted on Monday that this year might not be the best time for him to take a promotion. With the drafting of A.J. Green and Andy Dalton and with two first-round draft picks this year along with free agency, there is the potential to add more pieces.
Good to hear, continuity is a good thing, especially with a young offense.
