The Oakland Raiders fired coach Hue Jackson on Tuesday, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

New Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie will be introduced Tuesday. He becomes the first Raiders executive to hold the title of GM, and sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen on Monday that McKenzie was contemplating whether he should bring in his own coach, despite the fact he shared the same agent (Kennard McGuire) as Jackson.

McGuire had denied that Jackson would be let go.

The 48-year-old McKenzie will fulfill many of the duties handled by iconic owner Al Davis until his Oct. 8 death at age 82.

Jackson handled many personnel decisions in recent months after Davis' death. Jackson, who just completed his first season as head coach after being elevated from offensive coordinator, pulled off the highly debated October trade for quarterback Carson Palmer after starter Jason Campbell broke his collarbone.

McKenzie will take over his new job with the Raiders immediately, meaning he will leave the defending Super Bowl champion Packers (15-1) before they open defense of their title. The NFC's No. 1 seed hosts the New York Giants on Sunday.

Oakland has gone without someone in a true GM role since Davis' longtime senior assistant, Bruce Allen, departed for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the 2003 season. Allen had been a top personnel executive for Davis from 1996-2003. Davis' son, Mark, is now making many top decisions.

Oakland went 8-8 this season after a promising 7-4 start, ending its playoff chances by losing four of the final five games. The Raiders have missed the postseason for the last nine years since losing in the Super Bowl after the 2002 season.

That really sucks. It's a shame the new GM wants to bring in "his own guy".

Hue did a good job this year. QB went down for the year, DMC missed a lot of time, and he still held that team together and was a playoff contender down the stretch.

Winston Moss seems to be the favorite for the job as of right now. Fisher will be going to either St. Louis or Miami.

I thought Carson Palmer would be a good addition, but that trade alone is a fireable offense.

Maybe Jay Gruden will get a job elsewhere and Hue will end back in Cincinnati, how ironic would that be? Lol

Why would you be bothered by this?
As soon as they hired McKenzie, I saw this coming. It makes no sense, a new GM is not going to keep the incumbent head coach, unless there is a pre existing relationship there, and in this case there wasn't. It bothers me because I thought Jackson was a solid coach who was only going to get better, he was the perfect fit for that job and his speech after the Chargers game was proof of that.

They have their first .500 record in seven years and Tom Cable is fired, then they have another .500 record and they fire Hue Jackson? That team and organization is a wreck.

Did anyone else see how hilarious Al Davis' son looks? I couldn't stop laughing at him during the press conference. Only a matter of time til he looks like dad.

I never understood the Cable firing either.. he might not have done much playcalling but he was the leader of that team.

This is just ridiculous though. Who the fuck will want to go coach for them? Talk about lack of job security

It's really not that ridiculous.. A new GM wants to get his own guy, it's understandable.

Not to mention, with all the power Hue had before he came, there would be a conflict of interest and a power struggle.

The Cable firing was Al Davis's decision. He signed Hue and then he died and his son want to change directions with the organization. So he hired a gm and a gm wants a coach that will work with him. The coach turmoil is gonna be over with now that everything is sorted out in the organization. Mckenzie from what I'm reading definitely sounds like he is going to be a great gm.

Sounds like Hue didn't have a very good reputation/respect with a lot of his players... Can't have that

5 coaches in 9 years isn't ridiculous? As long as the franchise is owned by a Davis, expect crazy things to happen

5 coaches in 9 years is ridiculous, but a new GM wanting his own guy is not ridiculous.
