Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams’ contract will quietly run out after New Orleans’ season is over. Well, the story isn’t quiet any more.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that many people around the league believe Williams will join forces with his best buddy Jeff Fisher in St. Louis or Miami after the season.

Of course, this could be another leverage game by a coach. Williams could be getting this message out there in order to get the Saints to raise their contract offer for him.

Williams would love to be a head coach in the league again, and we happen to think he could be a good one. But that doesn’t appear likely to happen this offseason, so perhaps he really could bolt New Orleans after the year.

A long playoff run by the Saints would certainly help Williams’ leverage in getting a big deal.

Eh, I think the Saints are in a position now as one of the elite teams in the NFL that we wouldn't have a issue attracting another top notch d coordinator. I don't agree with everything he does (or calls), but I love the attitude he brings to this team and defense.

Well, they are ranked 24th in total defense so they aren't all that great anyways. Ranked 4th last year, quite the drop off.

Defense started out bad but really came on later in the season. Allowed only 18.5 ppg after the bye.

Our defense always gives up big drives to start the game, but after they settle down it gets a lot better then in the second half teams really struggle.

Saints defense gets bailed out by an offense that puts up nearly 500 total yards per game and nearly 35 points per game.

They aren't the greatest group but it doesn't make them look good when Brees is putting up 40 a night, making the opposition play from behind, airing it out.

Yep, I don't think it's a coincidence that 4 of the top 5 teams defense wise in pass attempts per game are the Packers, Saints, Patriots, and Lions.

I know the Saints, especially in the Dome, would get out to huge leads and Gregg Williams would have our guys playing prevent halfway through the third.
