Coordinator Mike Martz has resigned over "philosophical differences" with the Bears.

Martz walked away before coach Lovie Smith had a chance to replace him. The philosophical differences couldn't have been more clear, as Smith had to reign in Martz's pass-heavy tendencies for a second straight season while turning to OL coach Mike Tice to protect Jay Cutler against the pass-rushing woes inherent in Martz's scheme. Tice, ex-Ravens coach Brian Billick, and ex-Seahawks OC Jeremy Bates are the three candidates to replace Martz as offensive boss. Per ESPN Chicago, QBs coach Shane Day is also out after failing to develop Caleb Hanie. Source: Dan Pompei on Twitter

Sucks that Cutler will have to learn a new system, but this whole Martz era was a joke.

His system didn't fit our team and he tried to bring in guys that didn't pan out (Roy Williams, Chester Taylor, Brandon Manumaleuna, etc.) or we traded away guys that would be nice to have now (Greg Olsen).

Not surprised Martz system didn't work. Has amazing talent in St. Louis and ever since has been deemed an offensive guru. If he was so great at it, he'd keep a job longer.

They traded away Greg Olsen because Martz doesn't really use his TE's. Hes more of a Slot WR lover than using TEs to stretch the field.

He knows that, that's why he said traded away guys who they could use now, ie. Greg Olsen.

Since they will no longer be using that type of offense, they wish they never trade away Olsen.

Chicago Sun-Times - While the Bears fired Jerry Angelo and CEO Ted Phillips says Lovie Smith's job is safe, Jeff Fisher is reportedly monitoring the situation.

Already a candidate for the vacancies with the St. Louis Rams and Miami Dolphins, Fisher "will keep an eye on Halas Hall."

NFL Network reporter Albert Breer cited a source with knowledge of Fisher's thinking as saying of the Bears coaching job, "That's the one he's always wanted."

Bingo.

I called it when we traded Olsen. Martz wouldn't be back next season, so building an offense around players he liked was stupid.
