The Hornets could get a better package from teams for CP3 even without a lock to re-sign him than the Knicks could offer.

bad choice of words I guess. It says in the article the Hornets GM will meet with Paul once lockout is lifted to talk to him directly about it. I guess what I was trying to say was I'll wait until that meeting and see what happens from there on out. Much like statandmelo on here, i'm just gonna sit back and watch it play out.

And yeah, BC is right, they could get more from a team that trades for CP but doesn't even re-sign him.

a trade to the Knicks won't happen though. League currently owns Hornets and Stern was the preacher for the whole "competitive balance" in the NBA. If they traded Paul to the Knicks Stern would be lynched by the rest of the owners.

Yeah he has to be traded by the 31st or the team he is traded to won't have his bird rights. I think we all know his request will not be.met.

I don't know what you're talking about. We got Chauncey Billups and Renaldo Balkman! It seems like a no brainer to me. :p

If he wants to get traded to the Knicks and the Knicks dont have enough pieces to trade for him. Then its just a waiting game for now, because no team will trade for Paul if they dont have an agreement from Paul that he will resign. So unless Paul has a list of teams he would like to be traded to, then its Knicks or nothing for Cp3. And if thats the case the Hornets will try to get the most for Paul.

You really don't think there is atleast one team that would put all their chips on the table for a one year rental for Paul hoping they can wow him and get him to sign an extension?

Never underrate some of the idiotic NBA gm's.

I assume he means best possible offer from New York and not the whole league?

This is a terrible trend that doesn't look like it's going away.. What star players are in the last year of their contract next season?

Yep, and it's bad for the NBA.

By next decade all the "stars" will be playing only for big markets and all the small markets will just be door mats. Player gets drafted, player plays out last year of rookie deal then signs three year extension, player plays two years and decides he doesn't like playing for a place not called New York, Chicago, LA, etc and requests (or demands) a trade.

That's why a hard cap and revenue sharing was so important for the NBA, and they didn't get the hard cap but they got the next best thing. I guess...

I still don't see Paul going to NY...I think the Clippers are much more realistic.

I feel real bad for New Orleans and Orlando...they are in real tough spots.

I just think it proves that some of these guys don't care about winning nearly as much as they let on. Just think about it:

Paul / Douglas / FA
FA / FA / FA
Anthony / Balkman / FA
Stoudemire / FA / FA
FA / FA / FA

The only way they could get Paul is if they get him before adding any more salary onto their roster, so when they signed him that is what they would have. Having to fill those holes (two starters and a ton of backups) with 0 cap space? Good luck with that, that team wouldn't win anything.
