Isn't it pretty telling that the guy couldn't get a job the last few years? He was certainly looking..

You can't hate on a guy who claims to have invented the sandwich wrap.

I think that's more because of his personality than his ability to manage.

I think he was a pretty good manager when he was on the Mets. He definitely gets the most out of his players. And who can deny the stache?

Red Sox Players Unhappy With Valentine Hire?

A Red Sox official told at least one player at the beginning of the managerial search that they "weren't going to hire Bobby Valentine or someone like that," according to a clubhouse source.

The conversation suggests that Valentine was perceived by some as a darkhorse candidate that would not be popular with some players.

"They're going to have a mess on their hands," the source said when asked what would happen if Valentine, who at that time was just one of several candidates, was hired.

ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney had heard similar rumblings, citing sources Wednesday saying that "some Red Sox players have been upset" that Valentine had emerged as a candidate and have been "grumbling to each other, through texts and phone calls."

yep. The're upset because their assclowning in the clubhouse ran their coach out of town, and now they bring a no-nonsense guy in whose going to stop the video games and beer and fried chicken snorting in the clubhouse and get these ***holes in line, and they don't like it.

Tough luck. Ownership is paying you millions of $$, and now because of your actions last season, ownership needs to bring in a drill sergeant to make sure you're owning up to your contract. To make sure that they're investment in your talent is performing to expectations.

Sick and tired of athletes making all this money and acting like they can do whatever the F they want. And then when the shit hits the fan, the manager who makes less money than 3/4 of the players on his team gets the blame. And maybe thats the problem. Maybe the manager should be paid $20M a year. Otherwise, and I guarantee this, a player makes $18M and looks at his coach who makes $3M and says "Psh, I don't need to listen to you. I make blah blah blah money. I'm the star."
