The surging Bears may have hit a roadblock.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the Bears fear Jay Cutler has a broken thumb. Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune quickly followed up that report to say Cutler indeed does have a broken thumb on his throwing hand.

It’s unclear when the injury occurred. Cutler was able to finish Sunday’s win against the Chargers.

#Bears QB Jay Cutler did break thumb in his throwing hand. And while there will be more tests, there is a fear that it could end his season

Cutler being a pussy again.

Finished the game with it, play the rest of the way with it.

Jay Cutler expected to miss 6-8 weeks

The news just keeps getting worse in regards to Jay Cutler’s broken thumb.

Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune reports that Cutler will miss 6-8 weeks after he undergoes surgery on the thumb.

That timetable would allow Cutler to possibly return for the first week of the playoffs. The Bears would be lucky to get that far without him.

The Bears are 7-3 and have the following schedule: at Oakland, vs. KC, at Denver, vs. Seattle, at Green Bay, and at Minnesota.

It is a huge drop-off to backup quarterback Caleb Hanie. The Bears would need to win three of those games without Cutler. That’s possible, but hardly guaranteed.

The improvement of Chicago’s pass protection has been overstated. So much of the Bears passing game revolves around: “Let’s watch Cutler make throws no one else can.”

It looks like Cutler won’t be making any throws for a while.

Lovie Smith told the FOX crew this week he thought this was his best Bears team. We agree. They looked like legitimate Super Bowl contenders with Cutler.

It would be a shame if Cutler doesn’t get a chance to lead this team into the playoffs

HANIE TIME

but forreal, if you look at the NFC playoff picture

1. GB
2. SF

3 will probably be the winner of the South Division (ATL or NO)
4 Will be NYG or DAL

Which leaves the Bears and Lions with the losers of those two

I see: GB, SF, NO, DAL, DET, ATL

And then he needs to play for Detroit next year when Stafford gets injured again, so he can have started for all NFC North teams

Damn, Cutler was actually playing pretty well recently too. This is great news for the lions, improves their playoff chances a lot.

How do you expect him to play the rest of the season if this is an injury that requires surgery and has a recover time of 6-8 weeks?

Some people are fucking stupid man... Are people really still calling Cutler a pussy? Dumb asses...

No... Just no... Hanie sucks. He wasn't even impressive in the NFC Championship game, not sure what game everybody else was watching that thought he was so great.

At least the Bears schedule is easy. If we can go 3-3 over the final six games, that gives us 10 wins and a pretty good shot at a playoff spot, since we own the tie breaker over Atlanta. If we could get in, Jay might be able to come back for the first round of the playoffs.

Thank god our schedule is easy... @ Oakland, VS Kansas City, @ Denver, VS Seattle, @ Green Bay, @ Minnesota
